Mitchell County Should Work for
the People Who Call It Home

I want a county where people can afford to stay, find a home, raise a family, and grow old. That takes strong public schools, healthcare close to home, and EMS.Corporations and large developers will always look after their own interests. It's the job of local government to look after people first. Growth should strengthen Mitchell County and leave local people better off.Big decisions belong in public. People need to hear about them early enough for their input to matter.

Why I’m Running

My grandpa worked in the mines here for fifty years before he retired. He built the house on Altapass where I live today. That house has always meant stability to me. It has lasted from one generation of my family to the next.I was born at Spruce Pine Hospital in 1991 and went to Mitchell County public schools. Today I work second shift in Environmental Services at that same hospital, now Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.I believe an ordinary Mitchell County job should still afford the kind of life my grandpa built, but today that doesn't seem possible.That's why I’m running as a Democrat. The county needs to stand up for everyone who calls this place home and protect what makes a stable life possible.I want our county to plan ahead and tell people the truth. People deserve a say while their input can still make a difference.

What I’ll Fight For

As commissioner, I will:

Make It Possible to Build a Life Here

Push for a county housing repair and reuse program. Use grants and work with local partners to make existing homes safe and bring vacant properties back into use as homes people here can afford. Judge county tax and development decisions by whether they help people stay.
Protect our public schools, healthcare close to home, EMS, and disaster readiness by making them real priorities in the county budget. Keep Helene recovery moving and press for road repairs and other needed infrastructure work.

Protect What Belongs to Us

Oppose large data centers in Mitchell County. Put a moratorium and land-use protections in place before one can be built here. Our land, water, power supply, and roads need to serve the people who live here.
Require outside corporations seeking public money or county resources to show a clear benefit to Mitchell County, including good local jobs. Do not let them pass their costs and risks on to local people.

Put Ordinary People Back Into the Decisions

Explain my votes and hold regular listening sessions around the county. Bring major proposals to the public while there is still time to change them.
Work with the Sheriff’s Office and emergency responders to keep people safe while respecting people’s privacy and maintaining public trust. Vote against renewing Mitchell County’s current Flock license-plate camera system. Require a separate public Board vote before the county funds or contracts for any future vehicle-tracking system.
